Jack D. Stierwalt, Jr., 61, of Ingalls, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2019, at 7:30 a.m. after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia. He graduated to be with his Savior on a glorious, sunny summer morning with birds chirping and bees buzzing outside his open windows at home.
He was the husband of Karen A. (Wilson-Endicott). They shared nearly 19 years together.
Born in Indianapolis, he was the son of Virginia Shirley Clark (Sims), who survives him, and Jack Stierwalt, Sr., who preceded him in death.
Jack graduated from Triton Central High School as well as the Building Trades Program Cooperative located at Shelbyville High School. He started earning a living for himself during his teen years as a gas station attendant for his stepfather’s business and washed coach busses that his father drove. During his adult life, he was employed by BestLock Corporation/Stanley Tool in various positions over 20 years, before continuing as a buffer/polisher at Von Duprin/Schlage Lock/IR another 6 years until Parkinson’s Disease disabled him from working in 2003.
Jack attended several Nazarene churches on the Indianapolis District and in Glendale, Arizona. He enjoyed serving as an usher and assisting Karen in teaching preschool children. He participated in billiards and other activities, hosted small group gatherings, cleaned up tornado damage, and trimmed trees. With his truck he recycled anything he found by donating to anyone who could reuse it. He had an adventurous spirit, liked to travel with Karen and explore new places. Bowling, biking, and billiards were his passion. He and Karen were Homestay host parents for international students attending University of Indianapolis English Language Study classes. He was an avid fan of pro sports in Indianapolis, as well as being a grandfather spectator at his grandchildren’s events or played along. Jack will be remembered as a very present parent, husband, and grandfather. He loved to visit neighbors, friends, and relatives, actively listen and observe, never missing any detail. His servant’s heart was very attuned to any need he could solve, a very caring and sensitive individual. A man of few words, he would express how he felt with a song, card, or gift.
Jack is survived by his wife, Karen; son Benjamin (Theresa) Stierwalt; daughter, Erin Stierwalt; Benjamin and Erin’s mother, Debbie Holton; step-son, Daniel Endicott; step-daughter, Kristen (Francisco) Campos; eleven grandchildren, Darius, Kira, Azaiah, Jonas, Damon, Avery, Cory, Edmond, Thomas, Daniel, and Chris; and uncle, Robert (Bobby) Stierwalt, of Virginia. Furbaby Baylee boy will miss watching over Jack. Siblings and nieces/nephews are Clyde Sims (Emily, Matthew), Lori (Steve) Ferguson (Bethany, Christopher), Angela (Gordon) Hanthorn of Texas, Alexis (Cameron) Loya (Jaxson, Knox). Phoenix family members include Jeff (Aye) Samuelson (Jeff Jr.), Brianna (James) Fontenot (Chloe, Connor), Julie (William) Bayh, Kayla (Jake) Garvey of Indiana (Collin, Rolland), John (Valerie) Samuelson (Elise, Brandon), and mom Brenda Stierwalt, of Phoenix.
He was preceded in death by his father; and step-father, Clyde Sims, Sr.
His visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. continuing until the funeral at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Fortville Church of the Nazarene, 701 S. Maple St., Fortville, IN 46040. Internment at Mendon Cemetery immediately following the church service.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Fortville Church of the Nazarene in Jack’s memory.
